Harlow & West Essex Families is a local group whose aim is to provide help and support for children, teenagers and adults, along with their friends and families, who are living with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes.
Michelle Cox, whose son Ben has Type 1 Diabetes, formed the group in March 2014. After some research, and discovering there was no local support group in the area, she decided to put the wheels in motion and set one up herself, and The Friends Diabetes Group was born. The Friends Group became associated with Diabetes UK in November 2014, where its name changed to Harlow & West Essex Families Support Group.
The group meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month and are relaxed and friendly. The committee regularly asks for input from the group, and if there are any topics or subjects they would like more information on, or if they have concerns they wish the group to raise on their behalf.
The group contains a mixture of people, from children with their parents, to people coming on their own. Some sessions can simply be a cuppa and a chat, other sessions are planned with a guest speaker, demonstrations or training.
We try and provide games or craft making for the children at some sessions, please note this is unsupervised and parents are responsible for their own children
